DINNER AT THE OLIVE GARDEN IN ALTOONA, PA FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE JULY 2004 KEYSTONE COUNTRY RIDE

TEAM M7  -   a brief history of OUR bicycling team

Team M7 was originally named “The Magnificent Seven.” The team name then changed to the Mag 7 Plus as more members were added to the group. In the summer of 2004, the name Team M7 was adopted.  The original seven members of the team were: Krista Franz, Tom Krulikowski, Kevin Adzima, Peter Beaulieu, Steve Franz, Anita Nucci and Dan Piqueira. Over the next four years, a new team emerged, consisting of Krista (Franz) Adzima, Tom Krulikowski, Steve Franz, Anita Nucci, Dan Piqueira, Pete Beaulieu, Pete Muck, Laurie Kerchner, Teri Volante, Jacque Imro, Mike Wiedt, Bill Tighe and Paul Kohler. The team continues to grow! To join Team M7, it is required that you ride an MS150 event with the team. An MS150 is a 150 mile bicycle ride featuring hundreds to thousands of cyclists. All cyclists are required to raise at least $200 (per rider) from pledges. The monies collected go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to fight multiple sclerosis, a disease that usually strikes adults between the ages of 20 and 50. This chronic disease affects the brain and spinal cord, leaving its victims paralyzed,  blind and/or unable to walk or continue in their career. We cannot predict how the disease will develop or when or if it will go into remission.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society also sponsors Walkathons, Read-a-thons (children collect pledges for reading a number of books), U.G.L.Y.(understanding, generous, lovable you) bartender contests for restaurants, and various other charity events. Anyone's participation as a volunteer in just about any capacity is appreciated very much by the MS society. You can contact them locally to volunteer at (412) 261-6347.

In 2005, under the direction of team captain Dan Piqueira, we attained team jerseys. The team is preparing for two MS150 summer events: The Escape to the Lake (from Cranberry Township to Conneaut, Ohio on Lake Erie) and the Keystone Country Ride (from Altoona to State College and back the 150 mile LONG WAY!) Dan was the team captain for the July 23-24, 2005 Keystone Country Ride. Laurie Kerchner was team captain for the June 11-12, 2005 Escape to the Lake.

Below you can see a picture of our team jersey, and you can click on an icon that will lead you to a presentation celebrating our Summer of 2004 season! Those of you with dial-up modems may want to download the presentation while doing something else (like reading Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment from cover to cover), as it takes a while to download!
